Leonard Bairstow

Sir Leonard Bairstow (* 1880 in Halifax (West Yorkshire) , † 1963 ) was a British physicist and engineer .

Bairstow studied at the Royal College of Science in South Kensington and then worked at the National Physical Laboratory in Bushy Park (north of Hampton Court Palace ), where he led aircraft research. After the crash of the R101 airship , he played a key role in the reconnaissance. From 1920 to 1949 he was Professor of Aircraft Technology at Imperial College London .

He was a Fellow of the Royal Society , was CBE and was knighted as a Knight Bachelor in 1952 .

The Bairstow method comes from him .
