Leonard Smith
Leonard Smith (born April 19, 1894 in Brooklyn , New York , † October 20, 1947 in Beverly Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was an American cameraman who worked for over 70 films between 1915 and 1946. In the 1940s, he specialized in shooting color films. Shortly before his death, he won an Oscar for his camera work in the color film The Wilderness Calls , and was nominated for this award three more times. Smith also served as President of the American Society of Cinematographers between 1943 and 1947 .
