Lassie - hero on four paws (original title: Courage of Lassie ) is an American film from 1946. The main character of the film is the collie Lassie .
action
One day, 14-year-old Kathie runs into a young collie who grew up in the wild. When the dog is injured by hunters, Kathie brings him to Harry MacBain, who takes care of the dog's injuries. When Kathie is recovering from his injuries, Kathie decides to train the collie, whom she calls Bill, to be a herding dog; Harry supports her in this.
One day Bill is hit by a truck; the two truck drivers take the injured dog to the vet. Kathie goes looking for the dog in vain. Since it is not possible to determine who the collie belongs to, Bill joins the army. He is assigned to the soldier Smitty, who calls him Duke. Bill is trained to serve in World War II . During a battle against the Japanese, Bill is sent with an important message to Smitty, whom he reaches wounded. With the last of his strength, Bill manages to lead Smitty and his colleagues to the missing comrades.
Aggressive from the injuries and rigors of war, one day Bill runs off. On his escape he has to flee from hunters who think he is a stray. Eventually he meets Kathie again, who takes him to Harry MacBain's care. However, since Bill has killed chickens during his escape, a court hearing takes place to determine the fate of the dog. When Harry MacBain finds a tattooed Army ID number on Bill and requests a report on Bill, it turns out that Bill had saved the soldiers. Harry successfully campaigns for Bill's acquittal, who, to Kathie's relief, is allowed to return to her.
Reviews
"What begins as an idyllic Lassie adventure develops into a sentimental variant of the American homecoming film after the Second World War: Even four-legged friends must be able to find their way back to civilian life, where they are met with love and understanding."
