Renier Roidkin (born December 2, 1684 in Spa , † March 13, 1741 in Dreiborn ), also called René Roidkin , was a Walloon painter of the 18th century.

Life

Roidkin was mainly active in the Rhineland , Belgium and the North Eifel. As a traveling painter he drew numerous castles, churches, palaces and cityscapes. He used a brush, quill pen and pencil or ink. Many of his ink drawings were colored later.

Between 1733 and 1737 Roidkin made around 200 vedutas , all of which show properties in the Electorate of Cologne . Elector Clemens August I of Bavaria had commissioned the Walloons to carry out decoration work in his Augustusburg Palace in Brühl .

Herrenstein Castle (historical view)

His works include two ink drawings with views of Herrenstein Castle in Winterscheid from the first half of the 18th century. However, its signature was lost during a restoration (re-framing). He is referred to here as a court painter . Among other things, he produced, together with the painter “von Cloot”, an artistically decorated family tree of the Counts of Nesselrode . Between 1725 and 1726 he created around 70 ink drawings of their possessions for these gentlemen, for example by Ehreshoven , Thum or Welterode.

Several views of the Gracht palace complex from the years 1724 to 1730 are also known.
