Lassie - An adventurous journey (working title: Lassie Come Home ) is a German fiction film by Hanno Olderdissen from 2020 with Nico Marischka, Sebastian Bezzel and Anna Maria Mühe . The script by Jane Ainscough is based on the literary model by Eric Knight with the Collie Lassie as the main character. The premiere was on February 16, 2020 at the Berlin Zoo Palast . The cinema release took place in Germany and Austria on February 20, 2020.

The twelve-year-old Florian, called "Flo", lives with his parents Andreas and Sandra and his Collie Lassie in an idyllic village in southern Germany . Flo and Lassie are best friends. After Florian’s father loses his job, the family has to move to a smaller apartment where pets are not allowed. Florian is devastated because he has to give up the dog Lassie.

Lassie finds a new home with Graf von Sprengel and his granddaughter Priscilla, who are on vacation with Lassie on the North Sea . After the caretaker treated Lassie badly, she ran away in an unobserved moment and went on an adventurous trip back to southern Germany to see Flo, who in the meantime has also been looking for his dog.

The shooting took place from May 28 to July 30, 2019 in Berlin , Brandenburg , Schleswig-Holstein , North Rhine-Westphalia , Baden-Württemberg and the Czech Republic . The shooting locations included the Tatenhausen moated castle and the Halle Clinic (Westphalia).

The film was produced by Henning Ferber Filmproduktions GmbH, LCH Film, Warner Bros. Filmproduktion GmbH, Traumfabrik Babelsberg GmbH and Südstern Film GmbH & Co. KG.

The production was supported by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH, the Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein , the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW , the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg , the German Film Funding Fund and the Czech State Fund for Cinematography.

André Zacher was responsible for the sound, Josef Sanktjohanser for the production, Christine Zahn for the costume design and Astrid Mariaschk for the mask.

Lassie was mainly played by the male bandit from Renate Hiltl's film animal ranch in the Freising district. In addition, two doubles were used.

The film is a remake of homesickness (original title Lassie Come Home , 1943) or Lassie Returns (2005). The basic theme of the film was also filmed with The Incredible Journey (1963), Back Home - The Incredible Journey (1993) and The Incredible Adventures of Bella (2019).

Antje Wessels described the film on Oddsmeter.de as a “really well-produced family cinema” and “adventure comedy for the whole family, with absolutely nothing to complain about.” Olderdissen's adventure film congenially worked out the soul of the original and wrapped it in a contemporary garment for Young and old who captivate with heart (blood), drama, tension and a stunning human-animal interaction. The obligatory slapstick is kept within limits, and Olderdissen also refrains from "ingratifying himself with the kids through youth talk, hip-hop music and the like."

On Filmstarts.de , Markus Tschiedert found that Lassie's return would have been more focused and less overloaded. So the focus would be too much on the too many human figures and too little on the really great dog scenes. In contrast to the canine adventure Ruf der Wildnis , which started in German cinemas on the same day , Lassie does not come from the computer here. You can feel it and that's why you love Lassie.

Peter Slavin wrote in TV-Media that the film was all in all a "nice and harmless product for the whole family" - with the great advantage over Ruf der Wilderness that the dog is real here.
