Leonardo Church (born January 4, 1985 in Santa Bárbara d'Oeste ) is a former Brazilian tennis player .

Career

Kirche began his professional career on the underclass ITF Future Tour . There he played his first tournaments in 2001 as a 16-year-old. Three years later he was nominated for the only time for the Brazilian Davis Cup team . He played the last, and insignificant, singles against Mauricio Echazú , which he won. In 2006 he won his first of a total of six double titles on the Future Tour. He won his first individual title two years later, which enabled him to improve in the world rankings and end the year in the top 400.

Due to its better placement, Church started participating in tournaments on the later ATP Challenger Tour more regularly from around 2009 . Already in 2010 he made it to the finals in a doubles team with Rodrigo-Antonio Grilli in Belo Horizonte . There they beat the pairing Christian Lindell / João Souza in straight sets and Kirche celebrated his only title win at Challenger level. Due to further successes on the Future Tour, he improved his doubles further in the world rankings, so that in August 2011 he was among the top 300 and reached his career best with rank 298. He was also able to show successes in the individual, winning a total of eleven titles on the Future Tour. In 2012 he was in Campinas for the first time in the individual finals of a challenger, which he clearly lost to Guido Pella in two sets. At the beginning of 2013 it made it into the top 200 and achieved its highest score with 196th place. After that, he was unable to build on his performance in singles or doubles, which meant that he slipped in the world rankings and had to play more future tournaments again. He won his last title in spring 2015 with a future before ending his active career at the end of the year.
