Leonardo Pedersen

Hans "Leonardo" Pedersen (born July 2, 1942 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish jazz musician ( saxophone , clarinet , flute ) and big band leader.

Pedersen, who began making music in 1956, founded his first jazz band in 1958, which later became Leonardo Pedersen's Jazzkapel , with whom he toured for the first time in 1963 in Denmark and Sweden, and later also in Germany, Norway and Great Britain. In 1968 he made his first recordings with the Jazzkapel ; In 1968 his debut album Danish Traditional Jazz followed . Musically, the big band follows the tradition of the great swing bands of Count Basie , Quincy Jones and Louis Jordan . Pedersen has also performed with jazz musicians such as Albert Nicholas , Al Gray , Sweets Edison , Richard Boone , Johnny Griffin , Svend Asmussen and Eddie Lockjaw Davis . In 1983 the band had their own television show, which also included Etta Cameron , Benny Bailey and Benny Waters .

Between 1978 and 1988 Pedersen played in the formation Barbarossa , 1986 to 1989 with Van Diego and in the Original Danish Polcalypso Orchestra (also Karlekammeret ). Pedersen was also involved in the recordings of the Hans Knudsen jazz band as well as Peter Abrahamsen and Henrik Barner. In 2013 Leonardo Pedersen's jazz band celebrated its 50th stage anniversary in the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen .
