Leonardo Salgado

Leonardo Salgado (* 1939 ) is an Argentine vertebrate paleontologist who studies dinosaurs .

Salgado received his PhD from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata in 1962 . He conducts research for the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) and is at the Geological-Paleontological Museum of the Universidad Nacional de Comahue in Neuquén .

1995 erstbeschrieb it with Rodolfo Coria one of the largest known carnivorous dinosaurs Giganotosaurus . In 2006, together with Zulma Gasparini, he described the first dinosaur found in Antarctica , the ankylosaur Antarctopelta (from the Upper Cretaceous of James Ross Island ).

Other first descriptions are limaysaurus , Amargasaurus (with José Bonaparte 1991) Rebbachisaurus , zapalasaurus , Gasparinisaura (with Coria) pellegrinisaurus , rocasaurus , uberabatitan , Petrobrasaurus , Comahuesaurus , Demandasaurus , Amazonsaurus , Barrosasaurus , ilokelesia and he examined the development of titanosaurs and erstbeschrieb with Jorge Calvo and Federico Agnolin found the titanosaur Puertasaurus .
