Leonardo Villar

Leonardo Villar , actually Leonardo Motta , (born July 25, 1923 in Piracicaba , São Paulo ; † July 3, 2020 in São Paulo ) was a Brazilian actor .

Life

Leonardo Villar began his stage acting career in 1950 and made his film debut in 1962 in Anselmo Duarte's Fifty Steps to Justice . Villar played the main role of the farmer Zé de Burro . The film was the only Brazilian film to date to win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1962 . It was also nominated in 1963 as the first South American film for an Oscar in the category of Best Foreign Language Film . After further films he went to television in 1965. From 1972 he was under contract with Rede Globo . In 2001 he returned to the theater stage after almost 20 years of absence and in 2007, after a seven-year break, he played the leading role in a movie for the first time in Never Again Sehnsucht .

He died on July 3, 2020 at the age of 96.
