The Kulturrat NRW e. V. is a North Rhine-Westphalian umbrella organization of state-wide cultural organizations, state groups of professional associations and non-commercial cultural and cultural-political institutions with a regional focus. He has set himself the goal of bringing art and culture to the fore in state politics. The cultural council has its seat in Düsseldorf ; the management is based at the RheinEnergieStiftung Kultur in Cologne .
structure
The NRW Cultural Council only has legal entities as members. It has around 180 institutional members who have assigned themselves to one of the seven sections (music, dance, theater, media, literature, visual arts and cross-disciplinary culture / socioculture). In addition to the regional groups of the cultural divisions organized in ver.di , the stage association , the BBK , the Filmbüro NW , the NRW representatives of the Börsenverein and the library association , the Bonn House of Language and Literature and the cultural secretariats in Wuppertal and Gütersloh are also involved. The State Music Council of North Rhine-Westphalia has a special position , as most of the member organizations are represented through it.
Section spokesmen are elected at their own section assemblies and are sent to the board meetings as representatives of the respective division . The executive committee consists of a chairman and two deputies who are elected by the assembly of delegates and members.
history
After two years of preparation, the NRW Cultural Council was founded in two parts at a founding meeting on August 23 and September 19, 1996 in Düsseldorf, where it is entered in the register of associations (VR 8297 of June 3, 1997).
The first chairman was the Cologne cultural politician Hans-Georg Bögner . The current chairman Gerhart R. Baum was elected as his successor on July 1, 2005 .
activity
The NRW Culture Council wants to contribute to promoting and securing art and culture in North Rhine-Westphalia, supporting the diversity and quality of the state's cultural infrastructure, contributing to the exchange of information and experience between art and cultural organizations and cultural-political interests in public and vis-à-vis to represent state politics.
Therefore, the Cultural Council is in constant dialogue with the Secretary of State for Culture and the responsible ministries, the cultural policy spokesmen of the parties in the state parliament and other actors in cultural policy. He organizes national, but also transnational and international cultural-political events.
On September 8, 2006, at an event in Bonn, the NRW Cultural Council awarded Roberto Ciulli a prize for special merits in cultural policy .
