Leone Giovanni Battista Nigris

Leone Giovanni Battista Nigris (born August 27, 1884 in Ampezzo , † September 21, 1964 in Rome ) was a bishop , papal diplomat and employee of the Roman Curia .

Life

Leone Giovanni Battista Nigris was ordained a priest on July 18, 1909 .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on August 18, 1938 Titular Archbishop of Philippi and Apostolic Nuncio in Albania . The Archbishop of Udine , Giuseppe Nogara , gave him episcopal consecration on September 25th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Archbishop Celso Benigno Luigi Costantini and the Bishop of Concordia (Sagittaria) , Luigi Paulini .

In addition to representing the Holy See in Albania, he also held the office of Apostolic Administrator for southern Albania . In 1945 Nigris was expelled from the country by the Albanian communists. In Rome he became secretary of the De Propaganda Fide congregation and remained in that position until his death.

He participated in the first two sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.
