Leonhard Kuckart

Leonhard Kuckart (born January 13, 1932 in Schwelm ; † April 28, 2020 ) was a German politician , member of the state parliament ( CDU ) and vice of the Seniors' Union .

Life and work

After attending school with a secondary school leaving certificate, he completed a commercial apprenticeship and then worked as a commercial clerk.

Kuckart had been a member of the CDU since 1961. He was active in numerous party committees, so u. a. District chairman of the CDU district association Ennepe-Ruhr, state chairman of the senior citizens 'union of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia and deputy federal chairman of the senior citizens' union.

MP

From May 29, 1980 to June 1, 2000, Kuckart was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was elected from his party's national list.

He was a member of the city council of Schwelm from 1961 to 1980 and of the district council of the Ennepe-Ruhr district from 1975 to 1992.

On January 16, 2019 , Armin Laschet , Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, presented Leonhard Kuckart with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his decades of political commitment .

Positions

Kuckart demanded that the German language be compulsory not only in class, but also in the schoolyards. He wanted a nationwide uniform regulation of the ministers of education: "No child can go to school without meeting the minimum language requirements."

Leonhard Kuckart is the father of the writer Judith Kuckart . He died on April 28, 2020 in a nursing home near Karlsruhe .
