Leonhard von Elver (Mayor, 1564)

Leonhard von Elver (born July 24, 1564 in Lüneburg ; † December 28, 1631 ibid) was a German lawyer and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg.

Life

Leonhard (V.) von Elver came from a patrician family that can be traced back to Lüneburg in 1273. He was a son of the Lüneburg mayor of the same name, Leonhard von Elver . The Reichshofrat and imperial envoy Hieronymus Stephan von Elver was his half-brother. He studied law and was with his dissertation De fidejuss 1592 at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) for Doctor of Laws PhD. Elvers was initially a court advisor to the Elector of Brandenburg and then became a councilor in Küstrin , where he worked until 1593. In 1606 he became provost in Lüneburg, where he was elected mayor of this Hanseatic city in 1613. In 1626 he was appointed Imperial Count Palatinate ( Comes palatinus caesareus ). As a chronicler , he wrote the Elver Chronicle of Lüneburg from 1622 under the title Discursus Historico-Politicus de Statu Reipublicae Lüneburgensis , an important source for the first part of the Thirty Years War until shortly before his death. He was buried in St. Johannis .
