Leonhard's Chapel (2006)

The Leonhardskapelle , also known as the cemetery chapel , is a chapel in Laupheim in Upper Swabia .

description

The chapel was built in 1448 in the late Gothic style. It is surrounded on the outside by a chain made from the horseshoes of dead horses from a cattle disease.

In 1611 Pastor David Fogger donated the extension of the nave and a holy grave . The foundation is intended to remember his happy return from a pilgrimage from the Holy Land . In 1776 the building was redesigned in Baroque style. The church has an elongated nave under a gable roof covered with beaver tail . The three-storey western tower is crowned by an onion dome. A retracted choir forms the end of the nave .

In the northern part of the church there is a full-size replica of the Holy Sepulcher, with a relief of the resurrection of Christ and a grave Christ by JA Hops. The arched windows have a cranked end. The chapel has a flat roof and is decorated with rich stucco ribbon work . In this stucco bandwork there are cartouches with frescoes from the 18th century depicting scenes from the life of Mary. Various epitaphs of the Lords of Welden are placed in the nave .

On the grounds of the cemetery there is a way of the cross and a plastic mount of olives by G. Lämmle from 1880.
