Léonora Miano (* 1973 in Douala , Cameroon ) is a Cameroonian writer .

Life

Léonora Miano was born in Douala, on the Cameroon coast, in 1973. In 1991 she moved to France to study American literature in Valenciennes and later in Nanterre .

Léonora Miano's debut work, L'intérieur de la nuit (in German: Inside the Night ), was very well received by Francophone critics. The novel alone was awarded six prizes: the Les lauriers verts de la forêt des livres, Révélation (2005), the Prix ​​Louis Guilloux (2006), the Prix ​​Montalembert du premier roman de femme (2006), the Prix ​​Réné Fallet (2006 ), the Prix ​​Bernard Palissy (2006) and the Prix ​​de l'excellence camerounaise (2007). It was named the best debut work of 2005 by the French magazine Lire.

For her second novel, Contours du jour qui vient (in German: Outlines of the coming day ), she received the Prix ​​Goncourt des lycéens literary prize awarded by students in November 2006 .

In spring 2008 Léonora Miano published five novellas in the book series Etonnants Classique by Groupe Flammarion . They are grouped under the title Afropean Soul et autres nouvelles .

Miano was awarded the Prix ​​Femina in 2013 for the novel La Saison de l'ombre .
