Leontios Pełczycki (secular name Lewko Zenowicz or Lewko Zieńkowicz ; † August 1595 near Pinsk , Kingdom of Poland-Lithuania ) was Orthodox bishop of Chełm (1580–1585) and Pinsk (1585–1595).

Life

Lewko Zenowicz was a son of the later Bishop Zacharias von Chełm. In 1577 his father resigned as bishop and handed over the office to him. In 1580 he was officially ordained a bishop.

In 1585 King Stephen Bathory appointed him bishop of Pinsk and Turów. Because of his ministry, there were conflicts with the faithful in his diocese. He was accused of favoring his own interests too much. During a visit to Poland-Lithuania in 1589, Patriarch Jeremias II of Constantinople rebuked his administration and accused him of tolerating the negligent behavior of the Orthodox clergy with concubinates and other deviations from canon law and of carrying out non-canonical priestly ordinations .

In 1590 and 1591 he took part in several synods of the Ruthenian Orthodox bishops who sought a union with the Roman Catholic Church . In 1594 he met the Catholic bishop Bernhard von Lutsk to talk about this union. On June 12, 1595 he signed an agreement on union with other Orthodox bishops.

He died in August 1595 after falling from his carriage. He was buried in the Assumption Monastery in Leschtsch near Pinsk.
