Life

Kyrill Terlecki was probably born in the early 1540s to a noble family in or near Pinsk . He did not receive an extensive education. In the 1560s he was archpriest in Pinsk. After the death of his wife he became a monk and took the spiritual name Kyrill.

In 1572 he became the Orthodox Bishop of Pinsk and Turow. He was very committed to the rights of the Church and the Orthodox clergy. In 1585 he became bishop of Lutsk . In 1591 he was appointed the first exarch in Ruthenia by Patriarch Jeremias II of Constantinople.

In 1595 he negotiated with representatives of the Polish king and the apostolic nuncio about a union of the Ruthenian Orthodox eparchies with the Roman Catholic Church. He then traveled to Rome with Bishop Hypatios Pociej , where they received the approval of Pope Clement VIII . In October 1596 he signed the union with other Orthodox clergy.

He remained Bishop of Lutsk of the United Church until his death in 1607.
