Adam was promoted by Prince Mikołaj Radziwiłł and studied in a Calvinist school. He converted to Calvinism and studied at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow . In 1572 he was secretary to King Sigismund III. Around 1574 he returned to the Orthodox faith. He married Anna von Hołownia-Ostrożec, with whom he had six children.

In 1592 he became a monk after the death of his wife and took the spiritual name Hypatios ( Ipati ). In 1593 he became Orthodox Bishop of Vladimir and Brest at the suggestion of the voivode of Kiev Konstanty Ostrogski . Hypatios was one of the most active promoters of a union of the Orthodox Ruthenian Church in Poland-Lithuania with the Roman Catholic Church. In 1595 he negotiated as a representative with King Sigismund III. in Cracow via the Union and in the same year received the approval of Pope Clement VIII on a trip to Rome with Bishop Kyrill Terlecki .
After the Union of Brest in 1596, he remained Bishop of Vladimir of the new United Church. In 1599 he was appointed the new United Metropolitan of Kiev by King Sigismund and confirmed in 1600 by Pope Clement VIII. Its headquarters were in Vilnius . He took massive action against Orthodox monasteries, brotherhoods and parishes and gave many churches to the United Church.
Hypatios died in Włodzimierz in 1613 and was buried in the crypt of the Assumption Cathedral .
