Konstanty Wasyl Ostrogski (Latin Constantine in Ostrog * 1526 / 27 , or about 1526 in Dubno , Grand Duchy of Lithuania ; † 13. February 1608 , Ostrog , Poland-Lithuania ) was a Ruthenian prince and magnate in Poland-Lithuania. He was Starost von Wolodymyr-Wolynskyj , Marshal of Volhynia (1550-1608) and Voivode of Kiev (1559-1608).

Life

Konstanty was a son of the Grand Hetman in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Konstantin Iwanowitsch Ostroschski . He grew up in Turów . He owned over 100 cities and 1,300 villages in Podolia , Volhynia, and Galicia .

Konstanty Ostrogski was very committed to the Orthodox religion and culture in Catholic Poland-Lithuania. Around 1576 he founded the Ostroger Academy as a spiritual training center for Greek, Latin and Church Slavonic. In 1581, the Ostroger Bible was produced there as the first printed complete Bible in Church Slavonic.

Konstanty Ostrogski took part in the Polish-Russian war and besieged Chernigov in vain in 1579 . In 1596 he supported the opponents of the Union of Brest . In 1602 he took in the fake Dmitri for a while.
