description
Vegetative characteristics
Leontodon kotschyi is a perennial, very stiff-haired herbaceous plant with a vertical taproot, 25 to 30 centimeters in height and upright unbranched stems. The numerous foliage leaves are arranged in a basal rosette, they are 80–200 × 6–26 mm in size, elongated, indistinctly serrated, with a strictly sharp, rough, slender star-haired indument of 5 to 11-rayed star hairs of various lengths. The hair is noticeably different heights (as in Leontodon oxylepis ), so that the rays spread out at different heights and the hair felt becomes very dense; the length of the star hairs can vary on a leaf from approx. 350 to 750 μm. Beam span from 510-900 μm. On the stem, star hairs that look like the leaves, only much shorter and thinner.
The bracts have a strip of short, irregular, multi-rayed star hairs along the edges, and mostly individual star hairs on the median strip.
Generative characteristics
Leontodon kotschyi has bracts arranged like scales. The ray florets are pale reddish on the outside. The achenes are pale brownish, the pappus is dirty-white.
distribution
Leontodon kotschyi is common in Iran in the Elburs Mountains . The altitude distribution ranges from 400 to 3200 m.
Habitat
Dry grasslands are given as habitat.
Taxonomy
The species was discovered by Pierre Edmond Boissier in 1849 in Diagn. Pl. Or. Nov., Ser1, 11:40.
