Leopold Biwald

Leopold Gottlieb Biwald (born February 26, 1731 in Vienna ; † September 8, 1805 in Graz ) was a Jesuit, natural scientist and professor at the University of Graz .

At the age of 16 Biwald entered the Jesuit order . He became a rhetoric teacher at the grammar school in Ljubljana, and received his doctorate. theol. and in 1761 became professor of logic and soon after that of physics at the University of Graz. 1786–1787 and 1798–1799 he was rector .

His bust designed by Johann Martin Fischer in 1807 (see picture) is in the large reading room of the Graz University Library .
