Leopold Zscharnack

Leopold Zscharnack (born August 22, 1877 in Berlin , † August 19, 1955 in Kassel ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Zscharnack completed his habilitation in 1906 at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . In 1921 he followed the call of the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Breslau to the chair of church history . In 1925 he moved to the Albertus University in Königsberg as a full professor . After fleeing East Prussia , he found accommodation at the Philipps University of Marburg in 1948 , where he taught until his death. He was co-editor of the first two editions of the multi-volume lexicon Religion in Past and Present .
