Leopoldo Igarza

Leopoldo Igarza (born April 19, 1941 in San Fernando de Apure ) is a Venezuelan composer , guitarist and music teacher .

Igarza first studied guitar with Raúl Borges at the Escuela de Música José Ángel Lamas and then continued his training with Manuel Enrique Pérez Díaz . In Spain he completed his training with Regino Sáinz de la Maza . On his return to Venezuela, he earned the degree of Maestro Compositor under Antonio Lauro .

As a guitarist, he has received numerous awards, including the Premio Municipal de Música of the city of Caracas, the Premio de Docencia Musical José Antonio Calcaño and the Premio Nacional de Música . He won prizes at the Concurso Internacional Alirio Díaz and the Concurso de Composición para Guitarra Antonio Lauro . He took part in the first competition of Latin American composers with his concert for guitar and orchestra.

Igarza was director of the music schools Pablo Castellanos and José Reyna . At the latter he is professor of harmony and counterpoint, and he also teaches guitar at the Escuela de Música José Angel Lamas.

In addition to numerous pieces for the guitar, Igarza composed a guitar, a mandolin and a flute concerto.
