Lepismium cruciforme is a species of the genus Lepismium in the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Lepismium cruciforme grows epiphytically or lithophytically with semi-upright to creeping shoots that are somewhat branched. The very variable, often purple-tinged shoot segments are linear to lanceolate, triangular to pentagonal, winged or flat. They are up to 50 centimeters long and 2 centimeters wide. The edges are noticeably notched. The areoles , which are covered with tufts of white wool, sit in the notches . Thorns are rarely present.
The cream-colored, yellow, pink or rarely magenta-colored flowers appear laterally. They are 1 to 1.3 inches long. 1 to 5 flowers can be formed per areole. The spherical, more or less purple fruits have a diameter of up to 6 millimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Lepismium cruciforme is common in the northeast to southwest of Brazil , in Paraguay and in northern Argentina . It was first described as Cactus cruciformis in 1829 by José Mariano da Conceição Vellozo . Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel placed them in the genus Lepismium in 1838 . In 1994, the species name was proposed for preservation (noun conservandum), which was confirmed in 1999 by the 14th International Botanical Congress in St. Louis . A synonym is Lepismium commune Pfeiff. (1835, nom. Illeg. ICBN -Article 52.1).
Lepismium cruciforme is in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. not endangered, classified.
