Leptocereus ekmanii is a species of plant in the genus Leptocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet ekmanii honors the Swedish botanist Erik Leonard Ekman .

description

Leptocereus ekmanii grows shrubby with prostrate to semi-upright twigs and reaches heights of up to 1 meter. The uppermost shoot segments reach a diameter of 1 to 2 centimeters. There are up to seven conspicuously notched ribs . The areoles on it are felted in brown. The perennial brownish thorns are thickened at their base. The single strong central spine is up to 5 centimeters or more long. The up to ten needle radial spines reach a length of up to 4 centimeters.

The salver-shaped yellow flowers often appear in groups at the shoot tips. They are up to 4 inches long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with reddish thorns. The fruits are densely thorn.

Distribution and systematics

Leptocereus ekmanii is common in Cuba .

It was first described as Cereus ekmanii in 1931 by Erich Werdermann . Frederik Marcus Knuth placed the species in the genus Leptocereus in 1936 .
