Leptocereus maxonii is a species of plant in the genus Leptocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet maxonii honors the American botanist William Ralph Maxon (1877–1948).

description

Leptocereus maxonii grows shrubby with a few ascending to upright twigs and reaches heights of up to 1.5 meters. The uppermost drive segments reach a diameter of up to 3 centimeters. There are five to seven thin ribs that are wavy. The 20 persistent, needle-like, yellowish brown to dark brown thorns become whitish with age. They are up to 3 inches long.

The broad, salver-shaped, yellowish green flowers are up to 6 inches long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with densely placed long thorns. The spherical fruits have thick yellow thorns.

Distribution and systematics

Leptocereus maxonii is common in eastern Cuba .

The first description was in 1920 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .
