Jack Brownlow

Jack "Bruno" Brownlow (born 1923 in Spokane ; † October 27, 2007 ) was an American jazz pianist .

Brownlow began playing the piano when he was twelve. During his military service in World War II, he played in a naval band in Idaho ; after the end of the war he lived first in Kansas City, then in Los Angeles, where he a. a. performed with Lester Young and Boyd Raeburn . Brownlow, who was mainly known in the Seattle area from the 1960s , played in the style of Bill Evans . He was a mentor to younger musicians like Randy Brecker and Rufus Reid . He made his record debut at the age of 72 when he recorded the album Dark Dance ( Jazz Focus Records ) under his own name in 1995 , followed by Suddenly It's Bruno with bassist Jeff Johnson in 1999.
