description

Leptocereus paniculatus grows tree-like with a richly branched crown and reaches heights of 6 to 10 meters and more. A woody trunk is formed that can reach a diameter of up to 30 centimeters. The shoots that appear from the tip parts of older shoots reach a diameter of 4 to 6 centimeters. There are usually four, sometimes six, thin, notched ribs up to 2.5 centimeters high or the shoots are winged. The twelve to 20 persistent, needle-like thorns are brownish to gray and 2 to 5 centimeters long.

The tubular straight and greenish white flowers appear terminally from densely felty, cephalium-like formations and open at night. They are up to 2 inches long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with small scales, some wool and few or no bristles. The elongated green fruits are almost bare. They are 6 to 7 inches long and 4 to 5.5 inches in diameter.
