The damned (original title: Les Misérables ) is a 1934 French film adaptation of the novel Die Elenden (French: Les Misérables ) by Victor Hugo . Harry Baur in the role of Valjean is named the best actor of 1934 in "Movies over Matter". The film is in two parts (1st part Eternal Fetters , 2nd part Homeless ).
The nearly five-hour black and white film is considered one of the best film adaptations of the novel.
