Reading
A reading find is an archaeological or palaeontological find that was made without specific excavation work. Fees , coins , stone tools , broken ceramics ( reading ceramics ) and fossils are often readings that were brought to the surface by plowing and "picked up" from the ground. Archaeological reading finds should be located as well as possible (number of the measuring table sheet , field names, geographical coordinates determined with the help of GPS ) and reported to the responsible soil monuments office,
Legal situation (example NRW)
The legal situation in Germany differs depending on the federal state. In North Rhine-Westphalia , prehistoric reading finds must be addressed as movable ground monuments. According to § 17 Schatzregal DSchG, the address leads to an unrestricted transfer to the property of the country.
Legal position Denmark
Danefæ (derived from Old Norse “death man” or “abandoned goods”) are items from the past, including coins that were found in Denmark and which no one can claim. Such items belong to the state and must be given to the National Museum.
