Leslie Deniz

Leslie Deniz ( Leslie Jean Deniz ; born May 25, 1962 in Oakland ) is a former American discus thrower .

Deniz won the 1980 Pan American Junior Championships. In 1981 and 1983 she won the US championships and also became an NCAA champion in 1983 as a student at Arizona State University .

Deniz celebrated her most important success at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. There she won the silver medal behind the Dutch Ria Stalman (65.36 m) and in front of the Romanian Floren Cra Crăciunescu with a width of 64.86 m . However, because of the Olympic boycott, numerous more highly rated athletes from the Eastern Bloc were also missing from the competitions.

After her athletic career, she entered the police service and, among other things, headed the department at California State University . She currently teaches at Woodland Community College.

Leslie Deniz is 1.70 m tall and weighed 86 kg during her playing days.
