Albert Leslie Knighton (born March 15, 1884 in Church Gresley , Derbyshire , † May 10, 1959 in Bournemouth ) was an English football coach .
Career
After brief interludes as assistant coach at Huddersfield Town and Manchester City , he was coach of Arsenal FC in 1919 . During his time with the "Gunners" he was one of the first trainers to be associated with doping . Before the 1925 FA Cup final, he gave the players "little silvery pills" to increase the players' energy. The pills were effective, but the players no longer wanted to take these pills because they were afraid it would harm their health. In 1925, Knighton was fired from Arsenal and then moved to Bournemouth and Boscombe . From 1928 to 1933 he was the coach of Birmingham FC . In 1933 he returned to London and coached Chelsea FC for six years .
