Leslie William Mapson
Leslie William Mapson (born November 17, 1907 in Cambridge , † December 3, 1970 ) was an English biochemist.
Mapson studied pharmacy and then biochemistry at Cambridge University from 1926 . After graduation, he worked in the whaling industry and received his PhD in 1936 on B vitamins from the whale liver. He taught biochemistry at Portsmouth College of Technology, was at the Low Temperature Research Station in Cambridge and most recently was head of the plant biochemistry department at the Food Research Institute in Norwich .
He clarified the biosynthesis of vitamin C in plants and animals and its role in photosynthesis (as an antioxidant).
In 1969 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society .
