Lester C. Thurow

Lester Carl Thurow (born May 7, 1938 in Livingston , Montana , † March 25, 2016 in Westport , Massachusetts ) was an American economist and the author of several popular specialist books on complex questions of economic developments in the large economic areas of America , Europe, Japan and China.

Life

Thurow studied economics at Williams College and philosophy at Balliol College of Oxford University . He then received his PhD in economics from Harvard University in 1964 . He taught for many years at the renowned MIT Sloan School of Management in Boston , where he also served as dean . He also acted as an economic policy advisor to several US presidents and, especially since his bestseller "The Future of Capitalism", was considered an important pioneer of future globalization strategies. In 1984 he was accepted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Lester Thurow was sitting in the Board of Directors (Board) of the company Analog Devices , Grupo Casa Autrey and E-Trade . He also worked as a business columnist for publications such as the Boston Globe and USA Today , and before that for the New York Times (of which he was co-editor) and Newsweek .
