Lesteva is a genus of beetles from the family of the short-winged (Staphylinidae) within the subfamily Omaliinae . It occurs in Europe with 40 species, 13 of which are also found in Central Europe.

features

The body of the beetle is black, has a dense, punctiform structure and has fine hairs. They look similar to the species of the genus Geodromicus , but the last link of the jaw probe is four times as long as the penultimate one. The compound eyes stand out clearly, antennae and legs are lighter in color. The pronotum is heart-shaped.

Occurrence and way of life

The animals live mainly in damp moss on the edge of water, especially at waterfalls and weirs. However, they can also be found in the mud. They occur in large numbers in places.
