Letícia Deusina da Silva Klemens , or Letícia da Silva Klemens for short , (born August 15, 1972 in Lourenço Marques , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican businesswoman and politician ( FRELIMO ). Between October 2016 and December 2017 she was Mozambique's Minister for Natural Resources and Energy ( Nyusi Cabinet ).

Life

Letícia da Silva Klemens was born on August 15, 1972 in the capital of the then Portuguese colony of Mozambique, Lourenço Marques . She completed her education at the secondary school Escola Secundária Francisco Manyanga in the capital. Later she studied communication sciences at the Instituto Superior Politécnico e Universitário (ISPU); she completed her studies in 1998. In 2005 she subsequently completed a licenciatura in law at the same institute.

Klemens founded various companies - her first according to media reports at the age of 22 - including PROSERV Mozambique , a company that is dedicated to fighting malaria. She is also the chairman and founding member of the Association of Mozambican Women Entrepreneurs FEMME ( Associação Moçambicana de Mulheres Empresárias ), which was founded in 2009 . In 2015, Klemens was elected chairman of the shareholders' meeting of Mozambique's largest commercial bank, Millennium bim , for two years . Due to her various company holdings - including in THIRD - Gestão e Participações Sociais, Lda., - she is seen as confidante of the former President Armando Guebuza and the high-ranking FRELIMO member Alberto Chipande .

In October 2016, the Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi removed the previous Minister for Natural Resources and Energy, Pedro Couto , from his office and appointed Letícia da Silva Klemens as his successor. As part of a cabinet reshuffle in December 2017, President Nyusi dismissed Klemens and appointed Ernesto Max Elias Tonela as his successor. The media and opposition had criticized Clement's election because she had no administrative or government experience.
