action

In the year 2026, shifts in the earth's crust will cause worldwide destruction. The southwest part of Tokyo is separated from the rest of the city and forms an island shrouded in thick fog. Further earthquakes lead to the fact that a tower-like structure rises in the middle of this new island, which is used by the islanders as living space. The player's task is to get to the top of the tower.

(Non-playable) characters

Uncle death age unknown. Hobbies are skateboarding, video games and golf. Call players "Senpai" as a sign of respect, from gamer to gamer. Especially at the beginning of the game, he gives you tips and roughly explains the game. Every now and then he reports in the form of text messages, comments on the razor-sharp attack (finishing move) or appears in front of an area boss.

Meijin 21 years old. A pro gamer and the official face of Death Drive (this is the game the gamer plays). He is gifted in many games and has played this one 6 times. He plays because he enjoys it and helps the player with little wisdom while they play the game. For example when you find a new weapon or encounter certain opponents and bosses.

Naomi Detox 17 years old. A typical high school student who works at the counter of the Hate Arcade (the arcade the player is in) and keeps checking her cell phone. If you open the Death Drive compatible laptop "D-Mate" on the counter, you can accept an in-game quest.

Kiwako Seto She is an employee of the Hell Direct Service and can be seen in an FMV shortly before the start of the game. Every time the player dies, she appears and asks the player if they want to use the Hell Direct Service. It can be used if you have death metal.

Commodore Suzuki The manager of the Chokufunsha shop has his shop in the player's waiting room. Here you can give him the blueprints and materials found in the tower, and he uses them to develop equipment that you can then buy. Equipment and materials that are not required can also be sold from him.

Momoko Yamada 27 years old. Also known as the mushroom professional. She also has her "Mushroom Club" business in the waiting room. You can buy decals from her, which give the stuck-on fighter various properties, for example more life points. She also exchanges skill mushrooms for decals. You can also sell the pictures from her.

Commando Kawasaki 51 years old. A former black market trader and the twin brother of Commodore Suzuki. Was raised by different parents, hence the different surname. His goods store Gyakunfunsha is a wandering shop and can be found on different floors. He sells very rare goods. However, it is not possible to sell things with him.

Miss Rin Torai She is the young woman who is in the king's elevator and brings the player to the desired floor. According to her own statement, she is the only one who survived the earth frenzy. The Königs-Lift can only be used by HD-Express members. Either by using the 1-day express pass (you get from time to time as a log-in bonus or from Uncle Tod's box) or the 30-day express pass (available for purchase in the Playstation Store).

Tetsuo He looks like a mannequin. Supposedly he should be alive. It shows up when you approach the Tokyo Death Metro counter. He runs the Metro Front. With him you can perform various actions such as: set up defense, upgrade and redecorate waiting room (the latter requires death metal), attack other players' waiting rooms, start defense simulation, read information about teams as well as attacks or defenses and change teams. His twin brother and sister are also mannequins and stand by the Superscope 703 (for accepting and submitting quests).
