The beacon in front of Peenemünde stands on an artificial small island made of concrete and stone material in front of the mouth of the Peenestrom between the island of Usedom and the Western Pomeranian mainland not far from the island of Ruden .

The tower was erected on a concrete and stone island after it was erected on the edge of a shoal in front of the Peenemünder Haken. The beacon was used for safe entry into the Peenestrom, which is the access to Wolgast (shipyard and harbor), the naval port in Peenemünde, and the passenger ship ports in the Peenestrom and the Haff .

The eastern passage is limited by the tower and the pier from Ruden and is additionally secured by navigation signs (buoys / buoys). The beacon also serves as a guide signal for the western approach to the Peenestrom from the Greifswalder Bodden and Strelasund . There is a mooring platform for the service technology boats on the tower. The tower was extensively renovated in 2013.
