Lev Kreft (born September 15, 1951 in Ljubljana , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian philosopher and politician.

Life

Lev Kreft studied philosophy and sociology at the University of Ljubljana . The subjects of his diploma and master's thesis were Walter Benjamin and Herbert Marcuse .

He has been teaching philosophy at the University of Ljubljana since 1982, initially as a lecturer, and also at other universities in Ljubljana at times. In 2000 he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for the Study of Democracy at the University of Westminster . He has been a full professor since 2001. He mainly deals with questions of aesthetics , the philosophy of art and culture , as well as the philosophy of sports . Between 1999 and 2004 he was chairman of the Slovenian Society for Aesthetics .

From 1978 to 1979 Lev Kreft was President of the Socialist Youth Organization of Yugoslavia. From 1989 he was a member of the first independent party of Yugoslavia, the Udruženje za jugoslovensku demokratsku inicijativu , from 1990 he was a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia . After Slovenia's independence, he was a member of the Slovenian Parliament for the ZLSD from 1992–1996 ; in the 2002 presidential election he received 2.2% of the vote.

From 2000 to 2004 he was director of the Mirovni inštitut (Peace Institute), then its managing director, and since 2012 he has been chairman of its supervisory board. He was a member of the Commission for Women in Science of the Slwon Ministry of Education, which existed from 2010 to 2013 .
