Leviaethan is a Brazilian thrash metal band from Porto Alegre that was founded in 1983, split up in 1997 and has been active since 2001.

history

The band was formed in December 1983 by the bassist Flávio Soares, the drummer and singer Rossano Nadal and the guitarist Carmelo Zarbá. The following year the song Guerreiros das Ruas was heard on the sampler Rock Garagem . In 1984 and 1985 various performances were also held. In the following two years the line-up changed dramatically: Danilo Pizzato joined as the new drummer in 1986, before Nadal left the line-up shortly afterwards and Soares also took over the vocals. In 1988 the band made their first appearance in São Paulo and played with Sepultura in Porto Alegre. In the same year a first demo appeared with Thrash Your Brain . In 1989 the line-up changed again when Zarbá left the band, whereupon the two guitarists Carlos "Lots" Henrique and Alexandre Colletti joined. With this line-up, the band recorded their debut album, which was released in 1990 under the name Smile! appeared on Rock Brigade Records . In 1991 the group played in Buenos Aires and was seen for the first time in Argentina . In April 1992 Leviaethan played with Kreator in Porto Alegre and released the album Disturbed Mind on Rock Brigade Records . After Alexandre Colletti died in an accident in December 1994, João Marcelo came to replace him in February 1995. Various appearances were held in this line-up, including one with Angra . The band also contributed the song Watch Tomorrow for a CD supplement Planet Metal Mag s. 1997 Pizzato left the group and it came to a breakup.

2001 Flávio Soares and Carlos Henrique re-founded the band. Towards the end of the year, the drummer Ricardo "Ratão" Fonseca joined them, before the first performance followed in December 2002. In April 2003 guitarist Denis "Blackstone" Goulart joined them, making the band a quartet. In 2005 Henrique left the cast. Eduardo Martinez took over his post for 2007 and 2008, before he was replaced by Manoel Rodrigues in 2010. His first appearances were the thrash metal commemorative shows, which were held under the title "Smile - 20 Years of Fucking Thrash Metal".

style

According to classicthrash.com , the group is developing on Smile! the traditional Brazilian Thrash Metal. However, the music is not as raw and wild as the earlier material from the local scene. However, the album is not very memorable. Disturbed Mind is very similar to its predecessor, as it is not catchy, but ordinary Thrash Metal without highlights. thethrashmetalguide.com, on the other hand, described the music as original Thrash Metal, as the group did not follow the trends of Sepultura or Sarcófago , but sounded more unusual and technically demanding, which makes a comparison to Acid Storm closer. The debut album features tempo changes, melodic hooks and occasional influences from the San Francisco Bay Area . This influence increased on the second album, with a testament in particular as a reference. Occasionally, influences from the crossover should also be noted. The speed is usually in the medium to higher range.
