Levin Coldewey

Levin Coldewey (born January 26, 1669 in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) , † December 11, 1729 in Aurich ) was a German Lutheran theologian, most recently senior court preacher and general superintendent in Aurich.

Life

Coldewey, son of pastor Gerhard Coldewey , attended school in Oldenburg and studied theology at the University of Jena . After a stay in Copenhagen he was sent to Vienna in 1695 as a Danish embassy preacher. In 1698 he returned to Oldenburg. In 1699 he was temporarily back in Copenhagen. In 1700 he received a position as pastor adjunctus of his father in Oldenburg with the title of consistorial assistant at the local St. Nicolai Church.

In 1705 Prince Christian Bernhard appointed him chief preacher and superintendent in Wittmund . In 1710 he became a special superintendent for the entire Harlingerland . In 1711 he was appointed senior court preacher, general superintendent, consistorial councilor and scholarcha to Aurich, after his predecessor there, Johann Theodor Heinson, after numerous disputes with the pietistic government and consistorial councilor Eberhard Bacmeister, exasperated, moved to Hamburg.
