LexiROM

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bookshelf was a multimedia reference work for the computer on CD-ROM , which the Bibliographical Institute , Mannheim , later in cooperation with the company Microsoft has been issued.

The first edition from Microsoft appeared in 1995 , the fourth and final edition, subtitled Edition 2000 , in September 1999 . Microsoft also added a more compact version called LexiROM Mini to the Microsoft Office 97 Professional (German version) program package . LexiROM was eventually discontinued; probably because of the in-house competition to the popular multimedia lexicons from the LexiROM cooperation partner, Microsoft Encarta and Brockhaus Encyclopedia .

content

Version 4.0, Edition 2000 , contained the following reference books:

  • Meyer's Lexicon in three volumes (1998)
  • Duden : The German spelling (20th edition with old and 21st edition with new spelling)
  • Duden: The Foreign Dictionary (1997)
  • Duden: The related words (1997)
  • Langenscheidt's pocket dictionary English (1998)

Versions 2.0 and 3.0 also included the Microsoft World Atlas before it was finally spun off into the Encarta World Atlas , which can be purchased separately.

variants

Microsoft LexiROM was an exclusively German language product. The counterpart for the French-speaking market was sold under the name Microsoft Bibliorom . Both are independent language versions of the similar Microsoft Bookshelf , which had the same technical basis, but was more geared towards factual research than dictionaries. The first edition appeared in 1987 for the English-speaking market, and later at least also for the Spanish-speaking and Japanese markets.

Others

The fourth edition of LexiROM can only run on Windows XP if a patch or the Shockwave Player has been installed. Version 2.0 (edition from 1996, already with new spelling) runs without problems on Windows XP and Vista.
