Lexicon for Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lexicon for Austria is a multi-volume reference work that takes into account state-specific Austrian content in particular .

History and scope

The first volume of the 20-volume encyclopedia was published on the Austrian national holiday on October 26, 2005, the other volumes followed by the end of February 2006. Among other things, it was intended as a contribution by ORF to the 60th anniversary of the second Republic of Austria . According to the Brockhaus publishing house, the lexicon was a financial flop; it is held jointly responsible for the failure to pay the dividend for 2005.

The Duden publishing house is specified as the publisher ; the contents of an ORF -Mitarbeiterteam under the leadership of Werner Mueck and Alfred drivers supplemented by Austria-keywords. In addition, each volume contains about ten essays under the title Blitzlichter . These illuminate some Austria-related keywords and personalities in a somewhat more detailed manner; the texts for this come entirely from TV and radio broadcasts on ORF.

The lexicon includes 150,000 keywords and around 8,500 illustrations and graphics. In terms of the text, it is largely identical to the Brockhaus in 5 volumes (around 140,000 key words). However, figures and graphics have been adapted for Austria and geographical, historical and personal articles with reference to Austria have been added.
