Liane Jakob-Rost

Liane Jakob-Rost (* 1928 in Berlin ) is a German ancient orientalist .

Liane Jakob-Rost studied ancient oriental languages at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Since 1949 she worked at the Vorderasiatisches Museum in Berlin, since her doctorate in 1952 as a research assistant. Since 1958 she has been the custodian of the collection and in this position played a key role in the reintegration of the looted art that was returning from the Soviet Union at the time . Between 1978 and 1990 she was director of the museum, succeeding Gerhard Rudolf Meyer . In 1990 she retired, her successor was Evelyn Klengel-Brandt .

Jakob-Rost's main focus was the processing and publication of the cuneiform documents from the museum's holdings. She gave lectures at home and abroad, where she was also involved in many exhibitions. She was involved in excavations in Bulgaria and Iraq .
