features

Construction of the Imago

The animal reaches a length of 46 to 52 millimeters, of which 32 to 35 millimeters are on the abdomen . The face of L. nodistica is yellow with black horizontal stripes. The forehead, however, is uniformly black and furrowed. The thorax is brown with a lighter stripe in the middle that disappears with age. There is a lot of black and four yellow dots on the sides of the thorax. The hind wings reach a length of 37 to 42 millimeters and have a brown stripe extending to the wing triangle at the base. The area around this stripe turns silvery with age. There is another smaller spot on the nodus . The wing veins , the pterostigma and the legs are black. The abdomen is brown or black and gets darker with age. On the side of the abdomen there is a lighter, often interrupted black stripe. The front of the thorax and abdomen in males turn silvery with age. The abdominal appendages are black.

Construction of the larva

The larvae have eyes located in the center of the face and a long abdomen that tapers towards the end. The edge of the unpaired front part of the labium , the so-called prementum, is smooth.

Similar species

It is easy to confuse L. nodistica with L. vibrans , which is somewhat larger, has a white face and whose wing pattern is darker. And Cannaphila insularis also has a lighter face and the roots of the hind wings are significantly tapered.
