Libentius II

Libentius II. (Also Liawizo ) (* in the 10th century ; † August 24, 1032 in Bremen ) was an archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bremen .

biography

Libentius II was the nephew of Archbishop Libentius I. He was the manager of an inn in Bremen and then became provost at Bremen Cathedral .

In 1029 he succeeded Unwan as archbishop and bishop in the double diocese of Bremen and Hamburg, based in Bremen. Like his uncle, he devoted himself to the mission of the north. In 1029 he consecrated the Danish bishop Avoco / Aage as successor to Gerbrand as bishop of Roskilde, thereby certifying the ecclesiastical supremacy of the Archdiocese of Bremen-Hamburg over Roskilde . As a clergyman he is said to have done a lot of good for the poor. In 1032, after his death, Archbishop Hermann von Bremen succeeded him. He was buried next to Libentius I in Bremen Cathedral.
