The Lichtenrader Volkspark is a public park in Berlin .

From 1970, a high-rise estate was built in Lichtenrade Ost. New high-rise buildings were built over several years. The newcomers quickly realized, however, that the few green spaces did not meet their expectations of a settlement on the outskirts by far (until 1989 the GDR border systems were to the east of the settlement , so that the surrounding area could not be used).

For this reason, the first planting campaign by the citizens' initiative Lichtenrade-Ost e. V. (BILO) called. On June 10, 1981, the BILO Volkspark working group formed the Lichtenrader Volkspark e. V.

Very early on, the Lichtenrade Evangelical Church Community had spoken out in favor of abandoning the third construction phase of their EKL settlement, in order to combine it with areas of the district office and the Lehne farmer to form a spacious green area. In the preliminary negotiations of the church it became clear that the other landowners were only willing to make minor concessions that would only have made a “patchwork” possible. In order to insist on a big solution, BILO coined the “battle slogan” Volkspark Lichtenrade (analogous to Volkspark Mariendorf ), which was ultimately successful.

When it was founded, the ownership structure was as follows:

After a long controversy , the Lichtenrader Volkspark e. V. signed a lease for 9,247 m² from the Tempelhof district office on September 27, 1984 . After the death of the farmer Lehne, the community of heirs sold the site in 1984 to a private property developer who had 40 single-family row houses built on the site in 1986. Also in 1986, the state of Berlin acquired around 30,000 m² from the Protestant parish with the stipulation that this area was made available to the sponsoring association as leased land for 20 years free of charge. On June 1, 1989, the lease was signed.

The Lichtenrader Volkspark is run from donations by the sponsoring association. The planting has now been almost completely completed, so that maintenance work is now mainly required.

A partnership has existed with the Cham district since 1983 .
