George Doughty

George Doughty (born December 16, 1918 in Dale Abbey , Derbyshire ) is an English composer and tuba player ( euphonium ).

He learned to play wind instruments when he was a child and at the age of seven he already played in the Collingh Brass Band . At the age of nine he switched from the Eb horn to the euphonium. At the age of 12 he was already a soloist in the brass band. At the age of 14, he and his four years older brother moved to the Crosswell Colliery Band and later to the Derby Borough Police Band in order to gain more experience and learn more playing techniques. The Derby Borough Police Band was briefly conducted by Harry Mortimer , who paid him a huge compliment by noting that he thought he was one of the best euphonium players in Britain.

In 1980 he was given the opportunity to study at Valiviu College of Music .
