Lichtscheider water tower
The Neue Lichtscheider water tower is an operational water tower on the south heights of Wuppertal .
Location and description
The water tower is located on the Lichtscheid , the highest elevation in the urban area of the Bergisch city of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia at 350 meters above sea level . It stands at almost the highest point in Wuppertal at a height of 338.60 m (a few meters higher was the old Lichtscheider water tower , which was a little further north and was blown up in 1977). The new tower was built from concrete in 1975 and has replaced the old tower since it was commissioned.
Today it ensures the drinking water supply for most of the southern heights with the districts of Ronsdorf , Lichtenplatz and parts of Cronenberg (up to the Hahnerberg area ) and is operated by the Wuppertal municipal utilities . The water comes primarily from the Herbringhauser dam and is treated in the local waterworks , as well as from the Dhünntalsperre .
The water tower is based on a foundation with a diameter of 10.50 m and a height of 2.5 m. It has a height of 53.90 m (without antennas, with antennas 58.00 m) and is a landmark that can be seen from afar and shapes the silhouette of the southern Wuppertal urban area. The tower shaft has a diameter of 5.04 m, that of the water tank is 28.70 m at the top.
The container is 13.80 m high, has a total capacity of 1,540 m³ and consists of two differently sized chambers (so-called "cups") with a capacity of 1,250 m³ and 290 m³ respectively. In the event that maintenance work is carried out on one chamber, the other chamber is still available for the water supply. The empty weight of the container is 1,700 t, when filled the total weight is 3,240 t (1,540 t of which is drinking water). The filling height is 6.80 m, so that the highest water level is at a total height of 384.00 m.
When the tower was built, the water tank was created on the ground and then by a so-called "pulling lifting", i.e. H. pulled up on the tower shaft by means of a crane.
In Wuppertal, the Wassertebreck water tower is practically identical .
history
A one-year renovation was completed in March 2018, and lighting was created from 600 energy-efficient LED lamps with a light output of over 50,000 lumens. The flexible lighting concept can be adapted thematically.
