Lichtungen is a magazine for literature , art and contemporary criticism from Graz . It has been published since 1979 .

One of the aims of the magazine is to promote young authors and give them the opportunity to publish. In addition to these new names, internationally renowned writers are also published.

The art section introduces young artists and artist collectives; these design both the cover and the inside of the magazine. Time-critical essays round off every edition of the clearings.

The “clearings” are particularly well-known for their international city and country focal points, which are particularly present in south-east Europe. The magazine attaches great importance to presenting literary scenes from other countries (from the USA to Cuba and many parts of Europe to Belarus ) in German-speaking countries.

Lichtungen is edited by Helwig Brunner , Astrid Kury (curator for the art section) and Andrea Stift -Laube (chairwoman).
